About Van Guilder’s Goldsmith

Van Guilder's Goldsmith is in the heart of downtown Edina's 50th and France neighborhoods. Van Guilder's was founded in 1984 at Riverplace in Minneapolis and later moved to its current location in 1991. Martin, who immigrated to the US from the Netherlands, previously owned Martin's Jewelry and worked for retail jewelers around Minnesota. As a master goldsmith, Martin quickly gained recognition for his skill and craftsmanship in design and jewelry repair. Barbara, his wife, joined him as the buyer and saleswoman, and later, his daughter, Lisa, graduated from the Gemological Institution of America (GIA) and joined the business. In 2013, Martin passed away. Today, his wife and daughter continue the excellent service and standards he started many years ago.

I am the current owner of Van Guilder's Goldsmith and have worked in the jewelry industry for over 35 years. I enjoy participating in happy events; we help our customers celebrate and create. Our jewelry shop is unique because of our convenient location, friendly and personable staff, and small-town feel. Some things I enjoy, outside of running a small business, include keeping up with my grandchildren, gardening and spending time outside, and traveling. Stop in and say Hi!

Owner/GIA Gemologist

I was born and raised in the jewelry business. I took jewelry classes at the same school my dad attended years ago in the Netherlands. I attended two years at Minneapolis Community and Tech College (MCTC), excelling at jewelry repair and service. From there, I went to the Gemologist Institute of America (GIA) to become a graduate Gemologist. I have been working full-time at Van Guilder’s Goldsmith since 2003.

Master Goldsmith

I work on-site at Van Guilders, covering unique order design, wax model carving, and all jewelry repair. I was born in Germany, emigrated to the United States, and grew up in Minnesota, where I graduated from the MAVTI jewelry program in Minneapolis, MN in 1976. I have more than 40 years of experience as a goldsmith, including 21 years as a jewelry instructor at Minneapolis Community and Tech College (MCTC). I began working as a goldsmith in 1975 and had worked alongside Martin since 1976. I also own Renaissance Jewelers, a wholesale and trade jewelry company established in 1991. Beyond jewelry, which is a passion, music, art, and traveling are all part of a beautiful life.
